weekly THURSDAY SALSA & KIZOMBA NIGHT at BLISS bar & clubrooms (ex SportsCafe)

...that's right birmingham salseros, please note that we are back running our Thursday Salsa nights at BLISS bar & club every week, and we've now added the Kizomba breakdown from midnight til they kick us out (12:30/1am)!
Please spread the word but remember to arrive early to make the most of it, as salsa finishes at midnight, and then it's the kizomba block til the end. WEEKLY SALSA CLASSES are as normal from 8pm and then PARTY from 10pm-12:30 (or later). If you haven't been for a while, come and join us for great music, sound system, air con, dancefloor, and now back in one of our favourite club rooms, dedicated to salsa all night, for classes & party. Check out our new photos here.

We also have a 15-20mins freestyle practice session in between the 8pm and 9pm classes and invite all levels to come early to join in too, dancing with everybody and helping developing that dancing confidence that people can only get from social dancing.

WEDNESDAY SOLIHULL SALSA...

+ now with progressive taster sessions at 8pm.
Wednesday SALSA CLASSES & SOCIAL ...now at the SOLIHULL ICE RINK!! Check out our new photos here. We are now running progressive 8pm TASTER DANCE SESSIONS, alternating between ChaChaCha, Kizomba, Rueda, on2 & Bachata, ladies styling, technique, etc. Please try to attend every week so that teachers can progress every time. Come to Solihull and join our great Team DJ Kev, Brighon, Gary Thomas, Steph, Jo & Sonia every Wednesday for the optional 8pm taster session, and a great set of top salsa classes at 8:30pm followed by freestyle / social til 11pm. Always a friendly bunch of dancers and a perfect place to develop and practice your moves! Just turn up any week (incl. beginners), and join in the fun. Doors open at 7:45pm. It's a fantastic function room located on the outskirts of Birmingham & Solihull on the B425, just off the A45 (Coventry Rd).

We are using the Meadows Function Room right next to the HUGE free & secure car park. The room holds approximately 200 people, has a beautiful wooden dance floor and is self contained from the ice rink, having its own private entrance, bar counter and toilet facilities. The BAR is OPEN too which makes the social dancing time even more like a proper party. Please spread the word, and obviously don't bring drinks in as we'd like to keep the bar and your support there is essential.

Still one of Birmingham's best Salsa nights in the whole week. If you need a regular but great salsa fix, come and join us here every Tuesday night with loads of dancers, fun loving salseros and great atmosphere guaranteed.

Please note that we have introduced a 15-20mins freestyle practice session in between the 8pm and 9pm classes. We invite all levels to come early to join in too, dancing with everybody and helping developing that dancing confidence that people can only get from social dancing. PARTY will be as normal from 10m-1am.

REVOLUCION SALSA PARTY @ LandRover Club
If you came to join us at the Land Rover Club last couple of months, you'll be pleased to hear that we have managed to secure another date here. It was such a great party last time and the venue went down so well with everybody that we are chuffed to have been able to book it again. If you still haven't been, don't miss it again, it's brilliant! I'm also delighted to finally be able to bring guest DJ JAVIER LA ROSA to Birmingham on Friday 30th March. He's probably the biggest Cuban Salsa DJ in the UK but also can play for a mixed night and always reads the crowd perfectly. We are planning to keep the music mix similar to last month which worked so well. We are still giving the night that cuban salsa feel, but also adding some of our usual mix of other salsa, bachata & kizomba too with DJs MAURICIO REYES & DJ JAVIER on the decks all night. Please put in your diaries and share it with other like-minded salseros out there. Whether you dance Cuban style salsa or NOT, everybody is welcome!!! It promises to be another great party with a good variety of fun workshops for all levels, and Salsa party for all. We post specific dates & details here

LAND ROVER SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB is one of the Midlands most prestigious Social Clubs. The Club consists of a quiet lounge, an entertainments lounge, family room, games room and a concert/dance hall, all of which are well decorated and comfortable. We'll be using the large Rowood Suite which is their main concert/dance hall with huge beautiful sprung wooden dance floor, stage, own bar, and perfectly located seating areas all around. As the Rowood Suite is self-contained and ideal for our salsa party (PLEASE ENTER BY OUR OWN EXCLUSIVE SIDE ENTRANCE). If you've enjoyed our recent nights at The Jaguar Club in Coventry, this is just as impressive dance venue, but in Birmingham :)

PLEASE NOTE!!! Due to circumstances completely beyond our control, we've had to relocate this month's MIDLANDS SALSA SPECIAL from the Colliery Club to The JAGUAR CLUB just 5mins away in Coventry. Please help us spread the word so that everybody also not on-line gets to hear about the change before setting off on Saturday night. Luckily we've been able to secure this most beautiful dance venue as a replacement, which in many ways is even better, and even secured another 2nd alternative club room for the Kizomba party as well as the main dance hall for the Salsa Room. Apart from the venue change for this month, everything else will be as advertised previously, with doors at 8pm, Kizomba Workshops (2 levels) at 8:30pm, Salsa Workshops (4 levels) at 9:30pm, and party from 10:30pm - 2am with top teachers & djs line-up SHEETAL & JOHN, OZY SHYNE, TRACEY, AHMED, JOSE & SOPHIA, DJ GG, DJ KEV, DJ OZY & JULIAN SUMMERS. The Jaguar Club is a mere 5 minutes' drive from the Colliery Club. The MIDLANDS SALSA SPECIAL is still one of the UK most loved dancer's night, and continues to attract salseros from far & wide. If you've never been, trust me, this is well worth the trip, ask anybody. Everything about this night (and venue) makes you want to dance from beginning to end, and still buzzing all the way. In 2012 we hope to bring back loads of our favourite guest and some new ones too. Guest DJs regularly spin here alongside our residents Salsadelic's DJ GG, and LatinMotion's DJ Mauricio Reyes. It's one of the highlight in the UK salsa calendar, with salseros coming from all over. WHAT A TEAM!! PEOPLE, GET READY TO PARTY!!!!!!!! UNMISSABLE SALSA with the LatinMotion Team & special guests at the BelAIR at the prestigious Belfry Golf Club. It's a top Salsa night with 3 music rooms, and loads of dancers from all over the UK. Totally unique monthly salsa event, which actually feels like going out, very sociable, and so much fun!!! The venue is beautiful and at the prestigious Belfry Golf Centre, so it's also one of those salsa nights were people can look forward to dressing up. We post specific dates & details here. Our much loved St Anne's Club in Birmingham is back in full swing. It was shut for over 2 years due to a refurb that almost didn't happen, but finally it's back and perfect for a top dancers night in the centre of Brum. We are now running it as a monthly special event, normally on the 3rd Saturday of each month, and we post specific dates & details here. All the feedback has been really positive, with loads of dancers regularly travelling from far & wide to attend, and also very central with easy access for all our local salseros. We really love this venue and the night which we've been lovingly crafting for all the keen salsa dancers for over a 2 years now. We are normally on 2nd Saturday of each month, and we post specific dates & details here. It's a top salsa night, with a huge beautiful sprung wooden dance floor, and great music to boot with resident DJs Mauricio Reyes & Gary Thomas plus regular guest DJs too. Doors open at 8:45pm with 4 separate levels of Salsa Workshops at 9pm with resident teachers Irfan, Chris, Jose Perez, Sophia, Don Walters, Gary & Jayne, plus regular special guests.

The venue is perfect for dancing, and we mainly play a hot selection of SALSA, Mambo & Cha Cha Cha plus a light sprinkling of Bachata & Kizomba to add to the mix. If you like your salsa nights like this, JOIN US and please help us spread the word too. All feedback about previous events has been overwhelmingly positive, so we feel totally reassured that this is a perfect venue for a big night for salsa dancers in Birmingham, and worthy of attracting keen dancers from all over the UK. The Bournbrook & Selly Oak Social Club is lovely, but above all it's perfect for dancing with a HUGE Sprung Wooden Dance floor, and perfectly positioned seating & bar areas.

That's right peeps, the Jaguar Club is back with 2 party rooms on Saturday 28th January 2012! I know I often get very excited, but it is so exciting putting together stuff that you know is going to be so much fun. Well, this is one of those gigs! LatinMotion & Salsadelic are pooling forces again to bring you another TOP night of dancing in the Midlands. We are talking about a very special 2 party room event at a very special dance venue with a top team of instructors and djs. We'll also be welcoming Salsa-Central on this event and will be giving away some weekend party passes too, with MEL C & DJ TORQUEO as our special guests. Come early to join Mel's ladies styling workshop at 8:30pm.

The Jaguar Sports and Social Club is one of the most impressive dance venues in the Midlands, commensurate with Coventry's history as a major car manufacturing centre. We are most fortunate to have secured a Saturday date and be able to use both rooms too. This venue has a massive, beautiful dancefloor (akin to the Colliery Club)and in a fully modernised and attractive club. Not only that, but it boast a massive on-site secure car park & cheap bar :). The venue is Located north of Coventry, just a few mins off J3 M6 (A444).

8:30pm special ladies styling class by Mel C, plus 4 levels of SALSA WORKSHOPS at 9:30pm with OLIVIER (SalsaCoventry), JULIAN ATKINS (SalsaWarwick), JOSE PEREZ plus GARY THOMAS & JAYNE (LatinMotion/Mamboleo). Doors open at 8pm so you can get in, choose your favourite spot, get your drinks and even warm-up the floor before the classes commence at 8:30pm (sharp). If you're wondering whether to make a trip from far away, lets just say I highly recommend it! Trust me, this will be well worth the trip!

LatinMotion's REVOLUCION SALSA PARTY
We are talking about fun Cuban Salsa Party nights, with the friendliest crowd, fun Rueda classes and line-ups, plus spontaneous Ruedas forming throughout the night, excellent guest teachers & djs, fab sound system, awesome Cuban Salsa tunes, Live percussion, etc, etc... We are lining up loads more special guests for the future. PLEASE ALWAYS SUPPORT THE BAR & HELP KEEP OUR FAVOURITE SALSA VENUES & NIGHTS ALIVE!!!
It is really tough with venues at the moment, specially due to the current economic situation. We must remember that like all of us, venues are also under a lot of pressure at this time, having to cut down on all costs and focus on the parts of their businesses that will help them survive. On some occasions venues find it even more cost affective to close their doors and shut for a night completely if they don't believe they can cover their opening costs. Over the years we have been very lucky in Birmingham and have been able to get some brilliant venues to dance every week, and have even enjoyed loads of nights with completely free admission, but this is becoming unsustainable in the current climate, and we're having to become more proactive to ensure the survival of some of our favourite, and longest running WEEKLY nights, unless we just want to end up having only monthly parties which can charge a lot more on the door.

I've spoken to loads of people and taken a lot of advice, and hope we have come up with a solution that we think is fair to all. Please support it as otherwise we WILL loose some of our favourite nights and at best, we'll have to settle for less good venues, have to move around all the time, or we could simply loose them forever. We've had numerous meetings with venues too, who to be fair, have really supported salsa in Birmingham lots over the last decade and enabled us to run lots of weekly parties as well as special events. In order to finance & keep our much loved weekly socials/freestyle sessions running, we are going to have to introduce a small admission charge. Some venues will also be running drinks promotions on the bars too, so please still support the bars. We can only keep the nights/socials running with your support, admission charge and drinks bought are paying to provide the service/entertainment of the salsa night and all the associated bar opening costs. As a fellow salsero told me (thanks Steve), it pays for the drink it self; the glass it comes in; someone to wash the glass for you before your purchase; someone to collect the glass from you after you've finished; the venue and its décor/ambience; the person on the door; SECURITY; toilets & washroom facilities; someone to clean the venue; a dancefloor; effects lighting; a sound system; heating; air conditioning; etc. It will pay for electricity; Gas; Water Rates; Business Rates; Manager & Staff; Lease/ Mortgage; Stock; and hopefully make a little profit at the end which will have to have tax paid on it too. I hope I'm not labouring the point too much, but we really need your support in this to ensure the longevity our much loved weekly salsa nights.
